Feet Over Grip (FOG)
The vertical distance between the top grip and the feet at the moment of pole release. One of the key indicators in an m640 assessment.
Feet over grip is the vertical distance between the top grip and the feet at the moment of pole release.
FOG is one of the key indicators in an m640 model assessment, as is time on pole.
Elite men could reach around 2m. Elite women reach around 1m, but even at Olympic level FOG can be near zero or even negative for women. FOG numbers below 1m are rare for elite men.
FOG is a proxy for estimating the vertical speed and trajectory of the center of gravity at pole release. Small FOG numbers are usually an indicator, in this model, of structural issues in the actions on the pole.
It is well correlated with time on pole, and easier to measure in the field. A shorter time on pole usually results in a bigger FOG.
